Pro Blo Styling Tips
Get the very best from your Pro Blo styling tools with these simple techniques — for long-lasting volume, smoothness and healthy-looking hair with every use.
1. Section your hair
Why it's important: Proper sectioning is key to a smooth, consistent blowout. Working in small, manageable sections means every strand gets the attention it needs for a uniform finish.
How to do it:
- Divide your hair into sections using clips. Each section should be no wider than the barrel of your Pro Blo tool to ensure even results.
- If your hair is thick or long, split each section into smaller parts for better control.
- Focus on one section at a time, making sure each is neat and smooth before moving on to the next.
2. Brush through your hair
Why it's important: Brushing out tangles and knots keeps hair smooth and tangle-free, making styling more efficient and preventing snags when you roll.
How to do it:
- Before rolling, brush through each section thoroughly from root to tip to create a clean base for styling.
- Use a detangling brush or a wide-tooth comb to minimise breakage and help with smooth, even rolling.
3. Dry each section fully before you set it
Why it's important: Any dampness left in the hair — especially at the roots — will make your blow-dry drop quickly and stops the style from holding. Hair that's set while still damp falls flat and won't last.
How to do it:
- Start by rough-drying your hair to around 70–80% before you begin styling.
- Then blow-dry each section with your Pro Blo brush until it's 100% dry — paying particular attention to the roots — before you roll the barrel up. If it's even slightly damp, your style will drop.
4. Roll the barrel loosely — then cool to set
Why it's important: Rolling too tightly can cause tangling and tension, while rolling loosely lets your hair move freely so it doesn't get caught in the barrel. Letting the barrel cool in place is what actually locks in the volume and bounce.
How to do it:
- Once the section is completely dry, roll it onto the barrel. Don't over-tighten — leave a little room so the hair isn't pulled too tightly.
- Unclip the handle, leave the barrel in place, and let it cool fully before removing. Cooling is what sets the shape and gives you long-lasting volume.
5. Remove barrels slowly and carefully
Why it's important: Unrolling the barrel too quickly or forcefully can cause tangling, breakage or unwanted frizz. Removing it in a controlled way helps the curl or style you've created hold its shape.
How to do it:
- Once cooled, start at the bottom sections and carefully remove one barrel at a time. As you unroll, keep that section separate from the rest of your hair to avoid tangles or flyaways.
- Always unroll the barrel in an upward motion, not a pulling motion — gently lift it out of your hair to avoid snagging.
Pro tip: If a barrel feels stuck, don't force it. Use a comb or your fingers to gently lift the hair between the barrel and your head — this releases the tension and helps you unroll easily.
6. Avoid yanking or pulling
Why it's important: Pulling or yanking creates unnecessary tension, leading to tangling, frizz and potential damage — and it can undo the shape you've worked hard to achieve.
How to do it:
- Never pull or yank on the barrel when removing it — this only tightens the hair around the barrel, making it harder to unroll and causing tangles.
- Instead, follow the motion of the roll and gently unroll the barrel, keeping a steady, slow movement to preserve the shape.
Follow these steps and you'll get the best possible results from your Pro Blo styling tools — long-lasting volume, smoothness and healthy-looking hair every time. Happy styling! New to it all? Read how to use a blow-dry brush set or take the quiz.
